IMAGINING THE FUTURE OF AUTOMATED FOOD
BeeHex is a pioneer in the food industry whose early concept development efforts leveraged 3D printing technology to make pizza in a fun and automated way. Their first prototype had its roots with the space program where their CEO, Anjan Contractor, invented NASA’s first 3D food printer robot.
In 2015 BeeHex launched with the vision to provide fresh pizza made from the finest ingredients. The pizza is not only visually appealing but delicious, creating excitement among chefs, restaurant chains, theme parks, and food brands. BeeHex used clean robots to make pizza in under 4 minutes that would otherwise take a human 9 minutes.
The goal of our collaboration was to concept a more polished version of their original prototype that could be commercialized for use in restaurants and shopping mall kiosks. This new version would include a brand new exterior with integrated touch-screen controls as well as a portable cart with integrated food preservation to cool and store the dough, cheese and sauce mixtures.
While Beehex ultimately pivoted their business model away from this concept direction our collaboration laid the groundwork for their seed funding helping them make waves with investors and get off the ground.
