A SOUS VIDE VISION
Cinder's unique vision for their connected grill began with the concept of bringing sous vide cooking (pronounced "soo-vide") out from commercial kitchens and into the homes of people who love food. Sous vide is a method of cooking food sealed in airtight plastic bags in a water bath in order to ensure the item is properly cooked without overcooking while retaining moisture. For example, using sous vide chefs can cook steak with exactness to the desired effect of their patrons (rare, medium rare, medium, etc.) and ensure the meat will remain as juicy and tender as possible.
Eric Norman and his team at Cinder developed a way to translate the sous vide cooking technique to the world of counter-top grills. Using sophisticated sensors and connected technology Eric created a grill prototype that cooked the perfect steak every time and greatly enhanced the cooking experience.
A CONNECTED COOKING EXPERIENCE
In the past people relied on time in order to know exactly when to remove food from heat thus precariously straddling the line between raw and burned. Cinder shifts the paradigm from time to temperature allowing users to cook food to the exact right temperature (for example, 130 degrees is ideal for a medium-rare steak) and hold it there until you're ready to eat.
The Cinder Sensing Cooker also links wirelessly to your phone or tablet providing a window to the cooking process and allowing you to control the results remotely. Its user interface provides both simple and seamless navigation to preset food types and results as well as access to precise temperature controls allowing the user to customize the outcome to their specific tastes.
A TRADITIONALLY CONTEMPORARY DESIGN LANGUAGE
Because of the unique way that Cinder blends traditional cooking methods with cutting edge technology the design language had to communicate both traditional durability normally associated with kitchen appliances as well as the sophistication and sleekness associated with connected devices. The result is a beautifully angular device which inspires confidence, invites interaction and suggests the future of the home cooking experience.
