A REFINED DESIGN LANGUAGE
For more than 15 years Myk Lum and the design team at LDA have worked closely with Infinity's mobile audio division to develop their various lines of speakers, amplifiers and subwoofers. This collaboration with LDA has led to a refined and distinct design language which has helped Infinity stand out in a crowded mobile audio market.
BUILDING ON SUCCESS
In 2008 Infinity partnered with LDA to redesign their line of Kappa subwoofers building on the success of the previous line of Kappa woofers. This redesign would be a comprehensive effort covering all components including the woofer basket, magnet cover, woofer cone and dustcap. The goal was to take these components which had been previously segmented in the old Kappa design and integrate them into a cohesive product which could compete with other sophisticated woofers on the market.
TAKING KAPPA TO THE NEXT LEVEL
The result was a fresh new take on the Kappa woofer design language which helped Infinity strengthen their presence in the mobile subwoofer category. With the help of myself and Matt Tivnon LDA created a signature look for Infinity by blending strong and powerful design cues which reflect the performance of the subwoofer with refined and sophisticated materials which reflect the Infinity brand.
Note: although Matt and I both started by considering the complete design eventually I took the lead on the final design for the basket and magnet cover while he took the lead on the final design for the cone and dustcap.
