REALIZING THE POWER OF DESIGN
From its very infancy Frank Yang and his team at Simplehuman recognized that great design could help them gain a significant advantage in the saturated housewares market. In the early 2000's they partnered with Myk Lum and the team at LDA to help them create and develop not just great products but an innovative and disruptive brand. For more than a decade this partnership has helped bring to market some of the most beautiful and coveted products in housewares.
REDEFINING THE TRASH CAN
Simplehuman first established itself as a major player in the housewares industry by developing new and innovative trash cans. Their initial cans featured a stainless steel cylindrical body which created a new standard in high-end trash cans. Simplehuman would later take the plastic trash can market by storm with the introduction of their Slim Step Can line.
BUILDING ON SUCCESS
In 2009 LDA partnered with Simplehuman to expand their line of plastic cans building on the success of the Slim Step Can except this time around they would leverage a soft-touch lid opening mechanism in place of a foot pedal. The Soft-Touch plastic trash can is an economical solution which uses an integrated magnetic push-push mechanism and a robust spring-loaded hinge to bring magic and fun to the simple task of opening and closing the lid. By consolidating moving parts and pieces into the lid the Soft-Touch plastic can is also able to avoid using complex linkages between the lid and pedal providing a more robust and durable solution.
